Originally slanted against the crown (going against the government) Adversarial press: the news media is suppose to work as a watchdog of the government, its not suppose to serve the government but keep an eye on itits basically keeping the government in check: penny-press era (1833-late 1800s) Benjamin day (1830"s) had a newspaper called the new york sun, he didn"t want the news to be so expensive anymore, he wanted to sell it for a penny. He decided he was going to have advertisers that would cover the cost of his newspaper.
