Rumors: never use rumors, don"t run material from anonymous sources. Singularity: use the bizarre information in the leads, names can wait until later, small details and names can wait until later in the story, readers want to read the crazy story. Let the reader figure out that the speaker spoke or the council met. Comma splice: when you have two sentences separated by a comma, avoid this in lead writing. Numbers: always do the math yourself, don"t make your reader figure it out. Leads: most important and unusual parts of the meeting/speeches, speakers point may or may not be your main point, most important thing for your audience. Politician: ignore platitudes, they give the same speech over and over again, politicians give the same speech over and over again, have questions ready. Important topics in catastrophe speeches: deaths, injuries, lost of property, mention what the speaker said about the catastrophe. Countless people called and knocked on doors to warn people.
