Genetic disorders for id: down syndrome. Used to be prevalent in about 1 in 800 births. About 95% of down syndrome is due to a defect in the 21st chromosome (3 instead of 2) The other 5% are due to other complications with the 21st chromosome. Tend to experience fewer mental health problems than others with id. Tend to be happier than the general population. Tend to have a more agreeable personality than the general population: fragile x syndrome. Affects the brain prenatally and after birth. Transmitted from the second x chromosome of the mom. Level of intellectual disability is usually moderate to severe (for males) Females who have fragile x syndrome tend to have no or mild intellectual disability. Biggest deficits is within communication: williams syndrome. Very friendly disorder hug strangers, talk to strangers, overly trusting. Occurs one in 7 thousand to 1 in 20 thousand live births cardiac and kidney problems are common.
