Document Summary

Include an assessment (your assessment!) of the evidence galileo had to support his ideas. (what evidence did he have, and how convincing was that evidence?) It was before his time and extremely daring for galileo to go against the population"s beliefs at the time, especially the catholic church"s. Even then, galileo was a respected astronomer and philosopher, so others knew his work was researched and thought out. Copernicus, also believed in a heliocentric system, so this may have helped galileo. Galileo used his own telescope which he built himself to research. This equipment was extremely primitive and took a special understanding to use. Since not many other people could use his telescope, it would be very easy for him to make mistakes and not have them corrected by another researcher. Many people tried to poke holes in galileo"s findings, but he seemed to come up with an answer to all of their doubts.
