These lasted till 1683: emphasize religious tolerance, inheritance rights/ property rights. 1666 he was involved in settling differences between indians and the french. Significance the guy that takes over nyc and establishes british colonies. In 1638 he establishes a stronger school system and tries for a larger expansion in 1649. He also established the first police force and hospital in 1658. In 1656 he built an orphanage for children. The pavonia massacre was the killing of 120 indians.
