Political culture: authority believing an issue of following commands. Can issue commands; they need to be followed. Coercion, belief, and persuasion: legitimacy should they have it? . Temper, elections, etc. can question legitimacy of a person. Example: president bush election to be president won by vote by a court. 4 ways of gaining legitimacy: results: if they are effective or not. Example: president clinton/ affair impeachment: habit: tings are more legitimate because we are used to them. Example: not voting for clinton because she"s a woman: identity: self-identification / look at who has the same shared identity of them. Example: men trump women clinton: procedure: follow the rules and you get the correct / better results. People play with elections; making them seem democratic. All four ways can be a threat to the economy; so they are also bad: specific values. Some may not be seen in a democracy. The us is okay in these areas but not great!
