The state wants for the elections to go one way or another because it will define if they stay in power or not. 1800 - very few people; white, wealthy males. 1830 - average white male gets the vote. 1868 - black men are supposed to be able to vote, but it"s still hard for them to. 1965 - voting rights act allows poc to not be discriminated from voting. 1972 - 18 y/o are allowed to vote. Because the people in power need people like them to vote for them so they can stay in power. Poorer people do not have the time or money to get ids and thus are turned away when they try to vote. Each state has a different registration cut-off date. During this time, there were tons of people immigrating to the us.
