Personality type- certain personality types are considered more prone to stress. Characterized by an urgent sense of time, impatience, competitive, aggressive, and can have a difficult time relaxing. Relaxed, not upset over goal attainment, can appear to be unmotivated. Overly caring, and does not want to disappoint others, extremely apologetic. Pessimistic, socially isolated, dependent on others, fear of common situations. Self-esteem key influence the ability to cope with stress. How much stress people feel is closely associated with their sense of self esteem. Self esteem includes: beliefs, attitudes about change. Dr. martin seligman founded the study of positive psychology which is based upon optimism and its beneficial effects on mental and physical health. Difference between pessimist and optimist is degree of control people feel. We learn feelings of helplessness, these feelings can make us prone to stress and depression. Depression and stress are highly correlated to pessimism.
