How much stress people feel is closely associated with their sense of self esteem. Self esteem includes: beliefs, attitudes about change. Dr. martin seligman founded the study of positive psychology which is based upon optimism and its beneficial effects on mental and physical health. Difference between pessimist and optimist is degree of control people feel. We learn feelings of helplessness, these feelings can make us prone to stress and depression. Depression and stress are highly correlated to pessimism.
