Document Summary

Statistics is the branch of science that deals with the collection, organization, analysis, interpretation and presentation of data. It plays an important role in almost all fields of interest. Statistics also aids in decision making, by helping us: Explain actions that have taken place (by uncovering relationships) Refers to the procedures and techniques used in the collection, presentation, analysis, and interpretation of data. It is further divided in two: descriptive statistics and inferential statistics: mathematical statistics (theory) Deals with the development and exposition of theories that serve as bases of statistical methods. Descriptive statistics deals with the techniques used in the collection, presentation, organization, and analysis of the data on hand. Generalizations may only be applied to the data on hand. Meanwhile, inferential statistics deals with the techniques used in analyzing the data on hand that will lead to generalizations about a bigger set from which the data were obtained.
