Document Summary

Pathology: the study of disease as a dynamic process. Disease: an extension or distortion of normal life processes: disease and health are different points along a continuum. Pathogenesis: the course of infection or the development or evolution of a disease. Symptoms: subjective feeling by individual that something is wrong or in pain. Complication: new or separate process arising secondarily to change caused by original disease. Prognosis: prediction of outcome given specific variables of individual. Resolution: complete return to normal state, no sequale or complications. Cellular injury: condition where the cell is unable to maintain homeostasis. Very dangerous because cells are dependent on a continuous supply of o2 to run oxidative. Atp drives cellular machinery and maintains function and integrity of membrane. Without o"2 most cellular activities quickly stop. May be genetic, pathological, or from individual behaviors and life choices. Secondary: unable to absorb or use nutrient: intoxication. Endogenous source: toxins are formed inside the cell.
