GEO 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Environmental Degradation, Water Pollution, Periphery Countries
Document Summary
In general core countries tend to use more fuel. In general, consumption is high and is always increasing. In general, the north typically uses more fuel than the south because the north has more people. Also, in the periphery countries there is a growing population making fuel more in demand. The reason we industrialize is to make more money. The cheaper the fuel more money we make, regardless of the effects of the fuel. Ex: bp spill in gulf of mexico. Resulted in tons of oil being spilled, habitats destroyed, etc . Fracking: natural gas trapped in rock, water is pumped in to break the rock apart to release the gas. Ex: cutting down trees to burn for fuel.
