In the 21st century, locus of world trade is shifting back to trade. China in particular is resurrecting the silk road in the hopes that increased trade over these ancient routes will benefit the chinese economy. Actually, a collection of multiple roads that are known collectively as the historical silk. There were also numerous silk road sea routes such as routes across the indian ocean to the middle east and even some that went as far as the horn of africa.
