Hollywood is a nervous business: no guarantee of making money. Hollywood is conservative and sticks to conventional films and message because they don"t want to lose money: financially conservative. Subplots: often referred to as b plots. C plots are seen in genres such as soap operas: functions. Add depth and texture: gay romances are subplots because they are unconventional, audience can take a break from the main plot, if a movie is action-driven you want the subplot to be character-driven and vice versa. Fatal attraction (1987: adultery, act i: happy family, act ii: affair, alex tries to ruin dan gallagher"s family, act iii: family confrontation, ellen and the rabbit = subplot, rabbit = motif. Rabbit died, means a woman is pregnant. The cage rabbit is in reflects the cage dan is in. Cross-cutting: rapidly switching scenes back and forth between two scenes to heighten tension.
