MGT 291 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Situational Leadership Theory, High High, Transformational Leadership
Document Summary
The ohio state studies identified two critical dimensions of leader behavior: Consideration- creating mutual respect and trust with followers. Initiating structure- organizing and defining what group members should be doing. Fiedler"s contingency model- the performance of a leader depends on two interrelated: the leader"s basic motivation. High control and low control situations require task oriented leaders, middle ground is where relationship motivated leadership can take place. Need to remember 3 things: high, moderate, or low control situation. High- 2 out of three dimensions are high/good. Moderate- 1 out of three dimensions are high/good. In favorable (moderate) situations a leader can get away with not focusing on the task. In low situations a leader must focus on the task. Effective leader behavior depends on the readiness level of a leader"s followers: Left side people are super capable and ready to go. Right side people are unstable or unwilling to go.
