It"s very hard to get oil across both russia and the soviet union. Both countries have lots of natural resources but are very large countries. The united states has many natural means of transportation (rivers) while russia has little to no natural means of transportation. Russia can"t get to southeastern trade routes because they can"t get to the south china sea. Historically, russia has been prohibited from entering mediterranean by the turkish. Russia can"t get into the atlantic via the arctic or via the baltic because multiple. European countries who don"t like them won"t let them. The united states economy has always been far greater than russia"s. The russian economy always shrinks if oil prices fall while the united states economy does not depend on oil prices. Russia doesn"t have technology cradles lie the united states and don"t have a culture welcoming to entrepreneurship.
