Clinton was more focused on domestic issues which is what voters wanted with the end of the. His unofficial slogan was it"s the economy stupid . One of the post cold war issues the united states had to deal with was rogue countries. Also had to deal with failed states like somalia because they can create problems like piracy. Also had to deal with narco states like colombia. Clinton wanted a long term and short term strategy to deal with issues. Long term strategy was engagement which was essentially promoting liberalism and democratic values. Part of engagement was growing economies because stable economies would allow countries to move to democracy. With the north american free trade act, clinton wanted to tie north america together so we would have friendly relations with our neighbors. Wanted mexico to be stable so revolution and disorder wasn"t common in the country.
