How is this a barrier to communication? (p. 4) Communicative chauvinism is something we must try to resist, it is the thinking or belief that everyone else thinks and acts like we do. This is a barrier to communication because you have to be able to adapt to other thinking styles to communicate fully. Defining something helps bring attention to the topic that you are defining, as well as sets boundaries. It helps people focus on certain parts of the communication process: how do the authors define communication? (p. 5) They define communication as, the process whereby humans collectively create and regulate social reality. : what does is suggest to say that communication is a process? (p. 5) To say communication is a process, it suggests that it is ever changing, and active. If so, which animals do they mention? (p. 6) The authors do believe that other animals also communicate.
