Secretions go to epithelial wall ducts leading to bodily surface or lumen. Secretory products concentrated near free end of cell and are thrown off with a portion of the cell. Ex) sebaceous glands and tarsal glands of eyelid. Exocrine glands that secrete their products through ducts opening onto an epithelium. Endocrine glands that secrete hormones or other products directly into the blood. Paracrine secretion endocrine secretions that act on neighboring cells. Autocrine secretion endocrine secretions that act on the same cell. Function: serve to dissipate/ absorb/ support/ tolerate severe mechanical stress.
