MMG 141 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Punnett Square, Dihybrid Cross, Gamete
Document Summary
Found that wrinkled is not exclusive to green and yellow is not exclusive to smooth. Mendel"s 2nd law (principle of independent assortment) Alleles on one gene pair can assort into gametes independently of other alleles in other gene pairs. Analyze f2 results as if other not trait not present. Final conclusion, 2 3:1 ratios occurring at the same time. Each gamete needs to receive 1 copy of each gene. Equal chance either allele is included in the gamete. Determine proportions with punnett square or branch diagram. Determine probability of each trait separately, then the likelihood of multiple traits simultaneously. Probability of independent events occurring together is the product of probability of individual events. Probability of rolling a 4 and 5 on a dice. Set up punnett square for each trait. List probability of genotype of 2nd trait next to probability of 1st trait. List probability of each phenotype for 1 trait. Repeat with 2nd trait next to 1st trait.
