Document Summary

Elasticity- an object"s ability to return to its original shape after being bent, compressed, or stretched. Restoring force- force within the object that forces the object back to its original shape/ form, brings the object back to equilibrium. Objects that have a greater restoring force have greater elasticity. For an example: steel is more elastic than a rubber band. An object"s restoring force relates to the distance it is compressed/ stretched. Vibration- motion that repeats itself, back and forth. Equilibrium position- the center position of an object, the object is relaxed, and the restoring force is at zero. The acceleration and velocity of an object changes through the motion. At an object"s extreme points, the velocity is the lowest and the object accelerates as it moves toward equilibrium. Amplitude- the maximum displacement of an object from the equilibrium position. Period (t)- the time it takes an object to complete one vibration or cycle.
