Polis: greek city-state: no longer kings, more democratic society. Temple - every city-state has one patron god or goddess. Agora (market / meeting place) - usually close to temple. Not allowed to bury the dead within the city. Harbor - not always, if geographically close to water. Symmetrical from any view, no sculpture on the columns, all stone, monumental in size. Temple has to have an alter (outside) . Inside the temple function is to house the statue of the god or goddess. Now a system of tiles has appeared. terracotta tiles, required very structured roofing structure to not fall off.
