A disorder of language production with little deficit in spoken or written language comprehension (classified as non-fluent aphasia) Reduced sentence structure: content words are retained, but syntactic filler words are reduced. The individual is aware of the mistakes he/she makes and tries to correct them. Broca"s area, which is a portion of the motor association are in the premotor cortex in the left hemisphere. A disorder of language comprehension with retention of fluent speech (fluent aphasia) Speech is paraphasic ( paraphasia includes the omission of parts of words, incorrect use of real words, use of neologisms or made-up words, and substitution of incorrect phonemes for correct ones. Phase length is normal, as are articulation and prosody (inflection and rhythm of speech) Speech often lacks meaningful, substantive words and its described clinically as empty speech. Spoken language comprehension is poor, and sometimes lacking entirely. The individual does not recognize his/her errors and may get frustrated when other don"t understand.
