Pathos: why appeal to emotion, persuading v. arguing, being convinced v. acting on a conviction, sustain an argument (remembered, entertain reader (ie. humor) Identify w a speaker: too much pathos can actually hurt your argument, make sure it is an argument backed w facts--not propaganda. Ethos: reputation, claim authority, trustworthiness, motive, look at author and venue. Types of arguments: argument of fact, if something is true or not, evidence--think about the facts w/in your argument. What type of cancer: not as effective for arguing in your paper, argument of definition. Whether something falls into a certain category or definition have serious rhetorical consequence.
