The right of the government and public utilities (electric, gas, water company, ect. ) to take private property for public use with just/ fair compensation. The land owner has a right to a jury trial for the jury to decide how much they get paid for the property. Public use was originally considered libraries, government offices, roads, hospitals, ect. More recently, governments started using eminent domain as a way to make more money through economic development purposes. Zones specify the uses that can be allowed in certain areas of the city. A word, phrase, or symbol that distinguishes one product or service from another. Ex) mcdonald golden arches, motel 6, eat fresh, ect. Trademarks are recognized by both federal and state law. You must register your trademark with the government and pay fees. If you play music in your business, you must deal with copyright laws. Bmi, ascap, sesac are performing rights licensing agencies.
