What research shows us thus far: animals are social lubricants (eddy, hart, boltz, 1988, a scuffy looking man with a mean looking dog walked the streets and were still approached. When the dog was taken away, people avoided him. Even crossing the street: the same man was dressed nicely, without the dog, he wasn"t interacted with. When the dog is added, people begin to approach him: who provide social support and companionship (smith, 1992, young, single women who preferred the company of their animal over peoples, love unconditionally without evaluating us (allen, blascovich, Tomaka & kelsey, 1991: people placed in a room to do mental math, allowed to choose one supporter: researcher"s animal, friend or partner. The quickest speed was with the animal (no contact, or relationship with animal). Men: child, partner then pet: who can inspire us to have fun.
