Historically a lot of personality psychology emerged from clinical work, ranging from freud to rogers . More recently, personality psychology has been linked with less clinical fields, most especially social psychology (but also developmental) Recently, the relevance of personality psychology to clinical psychology has been noted especially with regard to a particularly type of psychopathology, personality disorders. Chronic, maladaptive cognitive-behavioral patterns that are thoroughly integrated into an individual"s personality. In a study of a representative sample of americans, researchers found that 15 percent had a personality disorder (grant & others, 2004). The dsm-5 lists 10 different personality disorders divided into different clusters. Paranoid, schizoid (socially detached/restricted affect), schizotypal (extreme social discomfort and distorted thoughts and perceptions) Psychological disorder characterized by guiltlessness, law-breaking, exploitation of others, irresponsibility, and deceit. Psychological disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, and emotions, and of marked impulsivity beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts.
