LAWE 335 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Facial Hair, Gallows Humor, Procedural Justice
Document Summary
When you become a police officer you will be asked to make some pretty big promises: Perform your duties to the best of your ability without regard to your personal biases. Be both moral and ethical on duty and off. You will promise to do these things for the citizens you will serve. Your duty is to the people, not an elected official, the chief of police/sheriff, or your fellow law enforcement officers. The law must be upheld and it must be obeyed, most importantly by you. Even though the job of a police officer shares some similarities no matter where you are, there are some differences in terms of a department"s priorities. A department"s mission statement as a written declaration of purpose. Kind of like a roadmap getting the department to where it wants to go. Generally has a prominent place on the website. Often presented with a departments vision statement and a list of its values.
