Status benefits--citizenship, healthcare, joint bank accounts(sharing finances), inheritance, tax benefits(joint taxes), sexual relationship(lack of is grounds for divorce), to raise children and obligated to care for them. Requirements--license, religious or civil authority to marry you, capacity(understand what you are getting yourself in to), minimum age, must not be too closely related, parental consent. Common law marriage- not legally married, husband and wife live together as husband and wife for an extended period of time, why can"t they have the same benefits as a legal marriage. Requirements-time(must be living as if the marriage exists for an extended amount of time mandated by state), must be legally qualified to marry, must intend the marriage to exist(both must believe they are in a marriage). Domestic partnership- non married couples who live together and quality for marriage like benefits.
