Median voter theory: winner gets their way/ middle person decides the vote; where they are on the spectrum: middle person wins; what the median person says, goes. They decide in winner take all positions: smpd 2 moderate parties. Pr more extremists parties: smdp large, diverse umbrella parties. Pr do not need to be so big because they do not need so many people: exception to duverger"s law seen in united kingdom and india. Happens at the district level not the national level! If the districts are grouped closed together = makes two political parties. Works better when the districts are spread out. Smdp works with 2 parties except in duverger"s law; in india and the united. Some, but worse; more corruptive and more fragmented parties; too many parties! Not done very well; only in the us and latin america. Have to have elections all the time.
