The issue of status is important to recognize because statues affects language and communication. Systems of inequity exists in all societies, and has done for centuries. When we start to understand our connection to the problem of inequity we can acquire tools to dismantle the ways that inequity is perpetuated. Status in society is based on your membership in certain groups. Our own status affects our interactions with others. Once we acknowledge this, then we can recognize how our assumptions and beliefs have shaped our expectations of how the world should work.
