Biological: physical hardware (brain and nervous system) determines thoughts and behavior. Cognitive- mental processes (perception, memory, problem solving) impact behavior. Sociocultural- impact other people and our culture have on our thoughts and behavior. Cell body (soma): takes in all info from neurotransmitters and tells the neuron to fire or not (all or nothing) Alzhei(cid:373)er"s ha(cid:448)e lo(cid:449) le(cid:448)els of acetylcholi(cid:374)e deals with memory. Effects arousal and mood states, thought processes, and physical movement. Parki(cid:374)so(cid:374)"s ha(cid:448)i(cid:374)g lo(cid:449) le(cid:448)els of dopa(cid:373)i(cid:374)e- deals with movement (too much dopamine = schizophrenia) Involved in arousal & mood, eating, and sleep. Plays major part in mood disorders such as depression. Keeps the brain from overloading and becoming too aroused. High levels can result in strokes from overstimulation. Involved in pain relief and feeling of pleasure. *want an even balance between gaba and glutamate. Medulla: major body functions (heartbeat, breathing, blood pressure) Plasticity: brains ability to adapt and to change.
