Population: the whole target group of individuals that are represented by the sample. A third unmeasurable variable is responsible for the relationship observed between the 2 measured variables. Random sampling- choosing participants randomly to participate in study. Random assignment- assigning participants to either control group or experiment group randomly. Double-blinding: when the observer or participants do not know whether they are in experimental or control group. (reduces bias)
