Important to understand how deviant thinks of themselves: humans have free will, deviant people have feelings, thoughts, and worth, try to understand lived experiences of person, assumptions, relative to time and place, voluntary. Relativity of deviance article: deviance is a behavior that violates social norms, some behavior is so bad that it deserves law against it, evoke neg reaction, use of social control to avoid this. Formal control: used to control acts against formal norms.
