Document Summary
Stat study shows that 650k people will die in next 10 years of opioid overdose. In 2016, 64k people died in us from overdose. Later had to pay fines for being misleading: doctors, under pressure from advocacy groups, medical assoc, and government to treat pain better and be quicker, wanted to have higher bills and rush patients out. Sometimes did not know what problem was so just gave pills: gave too high of doses. Some issues could be healed with other medication: wanted to make extra money on the side, so charged cash for them, patients, 100 million us adults suffer from chronic pain, opioids have more risk than benefit. Instead should have gotten treatment, exercises, self-manage pain etc: not accessible, no clinics provide this type of care. Leads people to use other drugs: 1 billion dollars added to help addiction treatment, recommended amount is 10 mil though, most needs to go to medication assisted treatment.
