TT 105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Nonwoven Fabric, Astm International, Knitting
Document Summary
The sequence of components and services that go into the final product. 6 major categories in textile manufacturing: fibers, yarns, fabrics, dyeing, printing, finishing. Aesthetics, performance and quality are the most important choices manufacturers make so that their products sells. Consumers consider: style/design, color, cost, performance, suitability for end use, ease of care. Some consumers buy products based on where they are made, how they are made (handmade, etc. ) or what good effects they have on the environment and their surroundings. Fibers: come from farmers- made from cotton and/or sheep, from trees (man made so the fibers are extracted), chemical plants (nylon, acrylic, polyester, spandex) Fabrics: manufacturers buy them so they can make a product- conduct the dyeing, printing, and finishing. American standards for testing methods (astm): fibers, yarn intermediates, yards, fabrics, and products made from textiles fabrics that retain more or less completely the strength, flexibility, and other typical properties of the original fibers or filaments.
