Continuity and discontinuity editing: key components of continuity editing system. Establishing shot/re-establishing shot don"t want editing to be noticeable. Show entire scene to establish who"s there and the scene. Show location, staging, figures laid out, to get us into scene. Master shot filmed scene from shot of entire set (showing everyone) Want to cut into space in order to see look on. *eyeline match = in terms of screen direction, eyelines make sense (looks like looking at each other) Get to see most of character"s face (3/4 angle to camera) *match-on-action = a continuity editing technique that cuts together two parts of one movement at the same moment in the movement making it seem continuous across 2 shots. Cut at the right moment and then go to next part and match them up to make it seem like 1 smooth motion. Point is to not distract us from the action.
