Document Summary

How does film work aesthetically (as a work of art)? (based on film editing by lucy. It has to have 2 sides to it: a making process and a receiving process. It doesn"t necessarily have to have an intention process. The aesthetics (the look, sound, feel, etc. ) of the movie is on one level at least utterly outside of the social process. As a mode of production, the filmmaking process cannot take into account the social realities it"s representing, because it has to do the representing. The aesthetics of the film is not the final interpretation of the film nor is it the intention to make the movie. Example: in the james bond movie, they had too many minutes left over, had to fill the space, so they added a scene that doesn"t make the plot go further. There"s different aesthetics for different movies and different genres. Film has one hand an aesthetic and the other hand a social aspect.
