FTT20101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Mockumentary, Diegesis
Document Summary
Intrinsic norms relate to narrative; patterns built into it so we know what"s happening; tells you how to watch the content: example: the office: mockumentary styles with confessionals, sometimes make eye contact with or talk to camera/audience. Story: story universe that takes place; actually how events would take place; sometimes includes things (before and after and in-between) we don"t see. Plot: what and how the filmmakers convey story to us. Diegetic: part of the story world, in-story events. 2 types: mental and perceptual: perceptual: what audience sees; general view; objective, mental: what"s going on in a specific character"s head; subjective. Flashbacks are subjective (because showing flashback from someone"s view related to current event) but made to look objective. *beats = something that happens that drives the story forward or complicates story in some way: usually short a few minutes, scene. Episodes have a rapid succession of short segments.
