During 30 years war, the bohemians (not catholic) fought against hapsburgs (catholic). The haps burgs were defeated in 1648 with the treaty of westpahla. This treaty marks the birth of the modern state system. 5 major signatories signed treaty of westphalia- they agreed to not ght over religion and to maintain a balance of power. It also agree to recognize each other"s sovereignty.
