Personality: personality: enduring patterns of thought, feeling, motivation, and behavior that we express in different contexts, what we choose to show and not to show, persona : mask that is a projection of a character. Is that which we project to others: approaches: looking at personality. Ideographic: looking at an individual"s characteristics in depth. Nomothetic: looking at people in general in order to generalize characteristics: personality measures: observing personality. Projective tests: perception tests that five an ambiguous stimulus to be interpreted: tat, rorschach. Objective measures: asks a series of questions in order to track different perspectives of an individual via their answers to the questions: mmpi. Behaviors are a function of internal pressures/conflicts . Fundamental assumption: personality is fundamentally irrational in nature. 4 models: topographic model of mental processes. Ideas are not connected logically but by emotional associations. Role of conflict/ambivalence: drive/instinct model of motivation. Fundamentally driven by the desire for pleasure.
