PSY30200 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Heredity
Document Summary
Chapter 2: foundations of development and contexts: gene-environment interaction: Because of genetic makeup, individuals differ in responsiveness to qualities of environment. People have unique, genetically influenced reactions to particular experiences. Brings into consideration the nature versus nurture argument. Because each of us has a unique genetic makeup, we respond differently to the same environment. Sometimes, different gene-environment combinations can make two people look the same: gene-environment correlation: Our genes influence the environments to which we are exposed. Passive: parents (cid:272)hoose (cid:272)hild"s a(cid:272)tions (cid:271)ased on their own characteristics. If parents are active, then they will do active things with child: child has no control over what they do because they are too young. Parents provide environments for their children based on their own heredity: parents have control over what child does. Evocative: parent"s responsiveness is based on how child acts. Growing up with parents who are nurses and doctors.
