Document Summary

Read: genesis 12:1-5, 15:1-21, 16:1-16, 17:1-27, 18:1-25, 21:1-8. On tuesday we will discuss the story of abraham in genesis. Abraham is considered the patriarch of three major world religions: judaism, christianity, and islam. The story of abraham is really the beginning of the story of the ancient israelites and all adherents of the jewish faith. It"s also a story that christianity sees as foundational. Here we move away from the earlier genesis pattern of human fault, divine punishment, and divine mercy--adam and eve, Cain and abel, noah and the flood, and the tower of babel--into a new pattern of divine-human interaction, based upon the special relationship that god establishes with abram/abraham. In an essay of around 250 words total, reflect on the following parts of the reading: In genesis 11:27-32 we get abram"s family background. Abram out of his father"s land and promises him many things. Both genesis 15 and genesis 17 talk about a covenant between abram and god.
