THEO 24842 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Sanctification, Purgatory, Spirit Guide
Document Summary
Lecture 2: origin of sin and the fall. Sin is not simply about man and god. The sacraments are only one aspect of how we deal with sin. Has meanings of deviating from the norm, missing the great points. Idea of a pathway we"re supposed to follow, and it"s when one deviates from the path when one is sinning. As long as one is focused on god, on what one ought to be doing, you go off the path and are sinning. Hubris = universal idea of sin from greeks. Sin is a specific kind of evil. Sin is always relative to god and his will. Sin is based fundamentally in the heart. It has clear routes in our being. Sin not only overt, but it"s hidden, it"s passive. If want to reveal the nature of sin, have to look first at the cross. By looking at that, can understand a little more the extent and seriousness of sin.
