Document Summary

Information in the cns can be passed in 2 ways : chemical. Somatic nervous system & autonomic nervous system. Carry motor commands from the cns to the muscles/glands/etc. Nerves carry info to or away from the central nervous system. Sympathetic fight or flight, parasympathetic rest & digest. Oligodendrocytes provide insulation for neurons in cns. Ependymal cells modified epithelial tissue that produce + circulate cerebrospinal fluid. Microglial cells phagocytes, eat up that bad stuff i. e. pathogens and bacteria. Astrocytes star shaped* cells that support neurons and circulate fluid and nerves. Schwann cells pns, insulation for cells, made up of lipids. Gaps of the axon = nodes of ranvier causes info to skip" along faster. Extensions from cell that receive information and send it towards cell body. Three types of cns neurons: sensory : afferent, info to system, motor: efferent, info away from system.
