Baby has thin upper lip, smooth philtrum, short nose. Less than 10% of babies born in the us will have physical/mental problems resulting from harmful factors. Moms who drink give babies a 44% chance of suffering from a deformity. Capabilities of newborns: ocular- very poor vision, olfactory- prefer odor of mother, gustatory- prefer sweet tastes, hearing- prefer high-pitched tones and rising tones. Involuntary unlearned reactions: several are present at birth and then disappear.
