SOC 1104 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Arteriosclerosis, Cardiac Output, Stroke Volume
Document Summary
There are some inevitable declines in the body"s systems which are influenced by both genetic and external factors (lifestyle, nutrition, health care). Some of these declines are visible, such as skin texture or hair colour, while other declines are internal and only become evident when observing someone in their environment, such as decreased muscle mass or decreased flexibility. Companies have profited from these normal changes associated with aging. You just have to walk into a drug store to see numerous creams, pills, and other (cid:1688)anti-aging(cid:1689) gimmicks that promise to make you look and feel younger. A better approach is to change behaviour and routines, such as eating healthily and exercising regularly. These methods often cost less, are more effective, and offer more benefits, such as increased energy and improved self-image. With age, many systems in the body are not able to function at the capacity that they once could.
