Romanesque art emerged in 1000 ad and lasted until about 1150 ad. Romanesque art and lasted from the mid-12th century to as late as the end of the 16th century in some areas. In the early middle ages these were drawn on whitewashed boards: cutting: glass was chosen for each part of the design and the outline of each piece was painted on with white lime wash. These pieces are cut out using a dividing iron, which applies heat to the glass, causing it to break. This paint ranged from brown to gray to black.
