This portrayal of crime and justice in popular culture that has received the most attention. Frequent portrayals of drugs, guns, violence, also police and prisons. Frequently accused of causing crime: something that sounds like the direct effects model. Guns, celebrates drug use, sex and domination, glori es crime and violence. Why does the perception that gangsta rap causes crime become so widely held: everywhere because all black people music lumped together, so very prevalent, music videos are crude, many rap artists got in legal trouble. Why does actual research suggest about the effect of rap on crime or crime- related attitudes and behavior: impact on criminal behavior, attitudes toward crimes against women, impact on mood. So: no evidence of a causal link. Raises a number of critical concerns about the research. The implication is a tool for racism- framing. Has inspired protests and reactions like no other genre. Protests say as much about the protesters as about the music.
