Class #2 beginning of pipeline vs. end of pipeline strategies. Definition of beginning of pipeline and end of pipeline . Case examples: acid rain emissions from the ohio valley, toledo/lake erie water. The goal at both ends is the same - to reduce/eliminate what"s causing the environmental problem. Acid rain is caused by precipitation of chemicals (so2, nox, co2, hg etc. ) trapped between water molecules from coal/oil emissions. H2o + so2 ------> h2so4 ; h2o + nox ------> hno3. The clouds also move, which causes the problem to spread across the globe. Acid rain causes breakdown of limestone, marble statues and monuments. This is a problem for those who value historical/cultural monuments and artefacts. One solution: use a coating of a 2-sided molecule solution that provides a protective layer against acid rain. Major problem for wildlife, vegetation (fish eggs don"t hatch) Environmentalists, ecologists, fishing industries, tourists wanting to swim/fish, property owners.
