During the cold war-> only two sides. Had to join one or the other. A way of bringing china back to its routes. 700,000 people labeled counter revolutionaries-> lost their lives. Once khrushchev comes to power, this ends. Chinese became major supporters of foreign communists. Militarily and technologically-> china was becoming a world power. Take land from rich peasants and give it to the poor.
